As the Oscar race starts to heat up, film critics across America are weighing in on their favorite movies of 2025. The New York Film Critics Circle voted on its annual awards this week, naming Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” the best film of the year. And now the Los Angeles Film Critics Association is preparing to unveil its own slate of award winners. The critical body will vote on Sunday morning, offering award watchers a look into the state of the biggest races.

The LAFCA awards often predict key Oscar categories such as Best Picture, as the organization has given its top prize to recent winners “The Hurt Locker,” “Spotlight,” “Moonlight,” “Parasite,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” and “Anora.” Anyone curious about how this year’s awards race will take shape would be well served to closely follow the 51st annual LAFCA awards when they begin on Sunday morning.
