SOCOM US Navy Seals has a distinct honor in the PS2 library of being the first online PS2 game with voice chat.

Voice chat, however, wasn’t limited to playing online. In single-player mode, players take the role of the team leader of a squad of Navy Seals who have to complete missions by taking down terrorists and saving hostages. As a squad leader, you can order the computer-controlled teammate to move, attack a target, provide cover and other commands via your voice with the headset. The tech didn’t always work, but it was an innovative mechanic for the time.

Where the SOCOM US Navy Seals shone was in online play. It was the first time console players were able to play a tactical team-based game online, where two teams faced off in intense matches, and all it takes is one shot to put you down.
