A Giants No. 1 pick would come with options — and complicated history to heed

The Giants have done little right this past decade and a half, and so it would surprise nobody if they did something silly like win a game or two down the stretch and surrender the perch from where they now sit, owning the No. 1 pick in the draft.

Should they stay there, they’ll be the rare team that owns the 1-1 and has options. They certainly appear to have their foundational quarterback, Jaxson Dart, so there’s no need to swallow hard and hope that Fernando Mendoza has more Peyton Manning in him than JaMarcus Russell. They can pick for need. They can hold out for a haul from a QB-needy team.

The world is your oyster when you have the 1-1.

Sometimes that oyster is plump and sweet and feels good all the way down your throat.
