Marc Maron has defended fellow comedian Adam Sandler after one fan questioned why he had not appeared on Maron’s podcast.

Maron has hosted the WTF with Marc Maron Podcast since 2009 and has interviewed hundreds of A-list guests, from Hollywood superstars to former U.S. President Barack Obama.

In a change from routine, Maron dedicated the January 2 episode to answering listeners’ questions.

One of the first questions he addressed was whether or not Sandler would ever appear as a guest.

“Look, I don’t know anything about Adam Sandler or if that is an active [he does] not want to do. I mean,” Maron began, adding, “I’ve asked him and he said he would; it didn’t happen.”

“Sometimes things just get lost or they don’t find time or, or maybe he’s being polite,” Maron added, referring to the likely booking process for his podcast in which their respective staff would liaise with each other to organize interviews.

“But I can’t say that he is actively not wanting to do this show; all I know is that he hasn’t done it [and] he’s been pitched it.”

Maron concluded: “But I don’t know if that pitch outside of the one that I made personally got to him, or whether he rarely does this kind of thing outside of [broadcaster Howard] Stern or people that he’s really close to in terms of talking on podcasts.”

Newsweek contacted Sandler’s representatives by email for comment on Tuesday morning.

Maron and Sandler are well known to each other and the latter even appeared as a surprise guest at one of the podcast host’s stand-up shows to perform a set of his own.

Maron performed a show at the Largo in Los Angeles on January 10, 2024, where he was joined by a star-studded line-up including Sandler, director Judd Apatow and comedians Nate Bargatze and Laurie Kilmartin.

Even though he has not been on Maron’s podcast, Sandler did turn up to be interviewed on The Joe Rogan Experience.

In the August interview, the two men talked about a range of topics, including their health, and Rogan gave Sandler some advice about rebuilding his fitness.

“The whole thing is just not overdoing it in the beginning. Start slow, where it’s maintainable, and then slowly build up,” Rogan said.

“So you give yourself new goals. And the thing is people try to go too hard … The whole key is just to give your body enough where it’s pushing it, but it’s not exhausted.”

Rogan added: “You’re not breaking your body down. You’re just strengthening it slowly … Over time, you slowly start to morph your body back into a good condition.

Sandler had gone on Rogan’s podcast to promote his Netflix stand-up special called Adam Sandler: Love You, in which he also talked about his health.

In the show, Sandler spoke about his family and how he was inspired to stay healthy for his kids.

“They always look out for me and my health just like I used to with my dad,” Sandler, 58, explained to the outlet. “You go, ‘Man, I want this guy around,’ so I used to scream at my dad to quit smoking, and my kids scream at me to just calm down and try to eat a little more like a normal person,” the actor recalled.
