TORONTO — The Giannis sweepstakes have started in earnest and the Knicks will try to win it.

The Bucks finally read the writing on the wall and began listening to offers for Giannis Antetokounmpo, sources confirmed, opening the floodgates ahead of next week’s trade deadline for the chance to acquire a two-time MVP.

The Knicks, according to sources, are expected to bid for Antetokounmpo and carry the advantage of being among the player’s preferred destinations. However, the Knicks, who exhausted most of their tradable first-round picks for Mikal Bridges, don’t have the assets to win a bidding war.

According to ESPN, which broke the story of Milwaukee’s new willingness to trade its franchise star, the Bucks desire “blue-chip young talent and/or a surplus of draft picks” for Antetokounmpo. The Knicks don’t have either. Their best rebuilding asset is probably Miles McBride, who is 25 years old.
