The Angels traded outfielder Jo Adell to the Cleveland Guardians on Monday ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
This marks the end of Adell’s seven-season tenure in LA, after the Angels took him with the No. 10 pick of the 2017 MLB Draft. Adell made his debut in 2020 but wasn’t a consistent starter for Los Angeles until 2024.
The 27-year-old Adell had a .240 average, 16 home runs and a .684 OPS when he was traded. While these offensive stats aren’t extraordinary, Adell’s defensive prowess was a big part of his trade value.
Adell’s defensive abilities were best shown when he robbed three home runs during a game in April, which nine-time Gold Glove Award winner Torii Hunter (arguably the greatest defender in Angels franchise history) said was “probably the greatest defensive game I’ve ever seen.”
Adell became a fan favorite over the years due to his exciting style of play and ability to deliver in the clutch.
He’s also under team control for one more season after 2026, which surely helped the Angels find a home for him when discussing deals with potential suitors.
