Boise State star running back and Heisman Trophy finalist Ashton Jeanty declared for the 2025 NFL Draft on Tuesday.

Jeanty is coming off an earth-shattering junior season, finishing with 2,601 yards on the ground and 29 touchdowns while helping Boise State reach the College Football Playoff.

“I’m excited to announce I am declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft,” Jeanty said in a statement announcing his decision. “The opportunity to play in the NFL is a dream of mine, and I’m proud to represent Boise State and all of those who have helped me along the way at the next level.”

The 21-year-old back finished second in the Heisman voting behind winner Travis Hunter and toppled Jay Ajayi’s Boise State single-season rushing record he set in 2014 of 1,823 rushing yards.

Jeanty finished with 27 yards shy of Barry Sanders’ single-season FBS rushing record that was set in 1988 when he had 2,628 yards.

In his final game with the Broncos, Jeanty rushed for 104 yards on 30 carries in the Fiesta Bowl loss to Penn State.

He will forgo his senior season in opting into the draft.

The running back thanked Boise State, the fans and the community in his announcement posted to social media.

“I want to thank Boise State and the coaches who recruited me and gave me a chance to show my greatness,” Jeanty said. “The community is what makes this place special, and the support and love from Bronco Nation is unmatched. Last but not least, I want to thank all of my family and friends for their support throughout my college career.”

Jeanty had an impressive sophomore campaign in 2023 when he rushed for 1,347 yards along with 14 touchdowns.

Before the Fiesta Bowl, Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson credited Jeanty’s work ethic for what’s made him successful in college.

“He’s the guy on the blue, in the snow, with his shirt off doing tug a war with his teammates, running all around the field. It’s how he trains and he’s built for that,” Danielson said. “Ash will be the first to tell you it takes the offensive line, the tight ends, our receivers. It’s mandatory to block on our team.”

Jeanty is projected to be one of the top running back prospects in the upcoming draft and Bleacher Report ranked him the No. 1 back in the 2025 class.
