President Donald Trump said that Americans are “so damn lucky” that he won the 2024 presidential election, claiming that a Harris presidency would have been a “catastrophe” for the economy.

On Monday, Trump spoke at the McDonald’s Impact Summit before a crowd of McDonald’s restaurant owners, operators and suppliers. His speech comes as many Americans are struggling financially amid rising grocery prices, housing and healthcare costs.

“There’s never been a time like this,” Trump said. “You know, I just might add, this is also the golden age of America, because we are doing better than we’ve ever done as a country. Prices are coming down and all of that stuff.”

Trump then accused President Joe Biden of putting the economy in shambles, saying “welfare was going up. Everything was going up. Government jobs were going up, real jobs were going down.” He suggested that if Vice President Kamala Harris was elected it would just be a continuation of Biden’s economic policies.

“So you would have had that catastrophe, and on top of that, instead of $20 trillion coming in, you would have had $10 trillion leaving our country. In other words, you would have had a catastrophe. You probably would have had a bankrupt country,” Trump said.

“You are so damn lucky that I won that election, I’m telling you,” Trump continued.

Under the Biden administration, inflation reached a record-breaking high of 9.1%. Under Trump’s second term, inflation has dropped to an average of 2.7%, according to the White House. However, the annual inflation rose to 3% in September, which is the same inflation rate when Trump took office in January. Job growth has also taken a plunge with fewer than 30,000 new jobs created each month under the Trump administration.

Meanwhile, consumers and food producers alike have been struggling under Trump’s tariffs. So much so that Trump issued an executive order last week exempting more than 200 food products from his subjected to his reciprocal tariffs.
