Palm Beach State College: 26th Annual MLK Celebration

Palm Beach State College will host its 26th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 23, featuring Retired Navy Capt. Gail Harris as the keynote speaker. Harris, the first woman intelligence officer in a Navy aviation squadron, served 28 years in the Navy, participating in key global conflicts from the Cold War to Kosovo, and emerging as a leader in cyber warfare. The event, themed, “Turning Obstacles into Opportunities,” will begin at 11 a.m. at the Duncan Theater on the Lake Worth Beach campus, and will include a Q&A session and the presentation of MLK Leadership Awards.

Riviera Beach: 41st Annual MLK Parade

The City of Riviera Beach invites the community to celebrate the 41st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, themed, “Be the Change You Want to See in the World,” on Saturday, Jan. 18. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., with participants lining up at 8 a.m. along Congress Avenue and MLK Boulevard. The parade route concludes at MLK Boulevard and Avenue O, with a viewing stand located at Avenue P and MLK Boulevard, offering the best vantage point for spectators.

This year’s parade will feature dynamic performances by Florida A&M University’s Marching 100 Band and Florida Memorial University’s ROAR Marching Band. Following the parade, attendees are encouraged to join the post-parade celebration at Dan Calloway Recreation Complex from 1-3 p.m. The festivities will include family-friendly activities and vendor row located at Avenue P and the complex’s side entrance.

Lake Worth Beach: a full weekend to honor the city’s 31st MLK Day celebration

Lake Worth Beach is commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a series of impactful events from Jan. 17-20, celebrating his legacy of equality. The celebration begins with a focus on the heroines of voting rights, honoring the women who fought for the right to vote in the U.S. A community service project will follow, providing an opportunity for residents to give back and make a difference. The festivities continue with a breakfast gathering, a sing-along to unite the community, and a candlelight march to honor King’s legacy.

Friday, Jan. 17, 7 p.m. Heroines of voting rights will be at St. Andrew Episcopal Church ( Lucerne Avenue and Palm Way) This music theatre piece is a joyful exploration of two women who made a difference: Ida B. Saturday, Jan. 18, 8 a.m. The community service project will be held at the Municipal Gym (1515 Wingfield St.). This event will incorporate a neighborhood cleanup in the Osborne community organized by Healthier Lake Worth.

Monday, Jan. 20, 8 a.m. The Unity MLK Breakfast is at Barton Elementary School (1700 Barton Road). This event will consist of youth-led music, prayer and reflections on working for racial justice today.

Monday, Jan. 20, 4:30 p.m. The Civil Rights Sing-along will be held at Lake Worth Beach City Hall front steps ( Dixie Highway and Lake Avenue).

Monday, Jan. 20, 5 p.m. Candlelight March will be held at Lake Worth Beach City Hall ( Lake Avenue and Dixie Highway). March through downtown Lake Worth Beach in a tribute to the freedom marches of the Civil Rights Movement. The MLK Commemorative program will follow immediately after the march at the Cultural Plaza, downtown Lake Worth Beach (Lake Avenue and M Street).

Monday, Jan. 20, 6 p.m. The MLK fellowship dinner will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (402 North M St.). This event will include food, fellowship and music.

Boca Raton: A breakfast, march, ceremony and celebration

The City of Boca Raton will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of free community events and celebrations on Monday, Jan. 20.

Monday, Jan. 20, 8 a.m. Community breakfast, themed “Don’t Give Up on the Dream,” courtesy of Developing Interracial Social Change (DISC) at Ebenezer Baptist Church Hall, 200 Ruby St.

Monday, Jan. 20, 10 a.m. March along Federal Highway from the MLK Jr. Memorial, 200 Ruby St., to the Mizner Park Amphitheater, 590 Plaza Real, featuring Boca Raton High School Band and Color Guard. Trolley service is available for those requiring assistance.

Monday, Jan. 20, 10 a.m. Join community leaders and local organizations for a ceremony to honor the life and legacy of MLK at the Mizner Park Amphitheater. Features include keynote speaker, Dr. Alisha Winn, a mayoral proclamation, speeches from community leaders, poetry, music and a Humanitarian Award presentation.

Monday, Jan. 20, 11:30 a.m. Celebrate with a variety of live performances, amusement rides, games, community partner booths, a photo booth, stage performances, food and beverages, a service project, and more, at the Mizner Park Amphitheater, 590 Plaza Real.

Boynton Beach: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

The City of Boynton Beach will host a free, family-friendly celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from 1-6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, at Sara Sims Park, 209 N.W. Ninth Ave. The event will feature live performances, including DJ Digital Vibez, Cande Rivers and the Frequency, and the Boynton Beach High School jazz band, drumline, dance team, and a step team showcase with members of local fraternities and sororities.

Attendees can enjoy food from various food trucks, children’s activities like face painting, yard games, carnival games, as well as a nonprofit showcase featuring organizations such as Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse and Pathways 2 Prosperity. Before the celebration, volunteers are invited to participate in a Day of Service neighborhood cleanup from 8-11 a.m. at the Carolyn Sims Center. Parking is available near Sara Sims Park, and an American Sign Language interpreter will be present.

The Spady Cultural Heritage Museum’s signature “I Have A Dream” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Brunch will take place on Monday, Jan. 20, at the Indian Spring Country Club, located at 11501 El Clair Ranch Road in Boynton Beach starting at 10 a.m.
