Bijou Phillips is still hoping for a miracle match.
Phillips, 45, has yet to find a suitable kidney donor after more than 1,000 applications came in, a source confirmed to Us Weekly. The actress remains in the hospital at UCLA as of Thursday, February 12, and is on dialysis as she faces complications from her first kidney transplant that she received “from a dear friend” in 2017.
She has a B negative blood type, and needs donors with B negative, B positive, O negative or O positive blood, according to TMZ, which first reported on the development.
Phillips spoke out about her ongoing health battle on Wednesday, February 11, sharing in a statement via Instagram, “I’m asking as a friend, a sister, an aunt, and, most importantly, a single mother to an incredible and brave daughter. I am in need of a kidney.” (Phillips is mom to 11-year-old daughter Fianna.)
The mom of one explained that she was “born with underdeveloped kidneys and spent the first three months of life in the NICU on dialysis.”
Phillips said that her previous transplant gave her eight “precious years” with her child “but I have had many complications since, including the BK virus which led to both a cellular and antibody rejection.”
“I am currently under care of Dr. Anjay Rastogi at UCLA and back on dialysis,” she added. “Please help me find a living donor so that I can have more time with my daughter, family, and friends.” Phillips concluded her plea to the public by noting that “time is of the essence.”
Phillips remains optimistic and is “awake” and “aware of what is going on,” a source exclusively told Us, revealing her condition remains “dire.” The insider said she started dialysis on Tuesday, February 10, sharing with Us that there is “natural wear on her other kidney.”
According to the insider, Phillips’ friends and family members “have gone through the process” to see if they’re a match but were unsuccessful. While “there are no prospective donors right now,” Phillips and her loved ones are hopeful one will be found in the next “couple months.”
Fortunately, Phillips has been surrounded by love. Fianna was seen visiting her mother in the hospital, along with the star’s half-sisters Chynna Phillips and Mackenzie Phillips, who were by her bedside in a heartwarming photo posted via Bijou’s Instagram Stories.
In recent years, Bijou formed a strong connection with boyfriend Jamie Mazur and has been enjoying life away from the glitz and glam of Hollywood. They were first romantically linked in June 2024.
A source close to the pair told Us that Bijou, who lives on her farm in Santa Ynez, California, and Mazur are very compatible as both are “free spirits and very laid back.” Plus, their romance is “low-key and easy,” an insider close to the pair shared with Us in November 2025. “There’s no pressure or serious commitment, and they enjoy spending time together when it fits into their lives.”
