Season 2 of The Hunting Wives is getting off to a shocking start with a surprise character getting killed off.
Brittany Snow, who plays Sophie, confirmed the twist during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Sunday, January 11, saying, “Someone dies. I won’t tell you who. That is a wild play. Wild behavior.”
The actress, 39, said she “stood up on my couch” after learning the news.
“Wild. Every script is a new adventure. They said that we couldn’t top last year and somehow I think we are doing it,” Snow teased. “I’m surprised. And I even knew what was coming a little bit. So I think people are going to be very shocked, I think people are going to be angry.”
She added: “I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing to say, but definitely people should watch.”
Based on May Cobb‘s book of the same name, The Hunting Wives introduced Us to Sophie, who moved from Boston to an East Texas town where she found herself drawn to prominent socialite Margo (Malin Åkerman). While some became invested in the murder at the center of the series, The Hunting Wives also provided plenty of entertainment with guns, drinking and steamy onscreen hookups.
Before it premiered, the show was slated to air on Starz but Netflix ultimately got exclusive licensing rights in the U.S. for one year after Lionsgate Television acquired rights to The Hunting Wives back from Starz. Season 2 of The Hunting Wives “will release exclusively as a Netflix branded series in nearly all countries Netflix is available, with the original cast set to reprise their roles,” according to a press release.
Fans have been waiting for news about a second season ever since the finale, which premiered in July 2025, made major changes from Cobb’s book. Those who have read the novel know that Jill (Katie Lowes) killed her son Brad’s (George Ferrier) girlfriend after Abby got pregnant and refused to get an abortion. Jill subsequently killed Margo (named Margot in the book) because she knew about her friend’s affair with her teenage son as well.
The eight-part series, however, took a large departure from the original plot by having Margo as the one who got pregnant with Brad’s baby. Margo had an abortion and ultimately killed Abby, which Sophie figured out in the season 1 finale. Sophie was about to give Margo up before Margo’s brother got involved and Sophie ended up killing Kyle (Aaron Milligan).
Creator Rebecca Cutter previously teased plans for a second season when speaking to Variety in July 2025, saying there is “a little bit of a time jump — not a year, but a time.” She also hinted that “it would be smart” to have a new murder mystery in the next season, adding, “I don’t know whodunit yet or who got done!”
Author Cobb also showed support for a continuation. “I feel like there is so much more story to be told,” Cobb told CBS 19 in July. “It ends on a cliffhanger, and also, the cast and crew were so wonderful. We all just want to get back together and work together again.”
The Hunting Wives is currently streaming on Netflix.
