Cleveland is once again interested in an offensive-minded running the show.

Just one day after the Browns fired their offensive guru head coach Kevin Stefanski, the team requested to interview Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, according to NFL Network.

Monken, who joined the just-fired John Harbaugh’s staff for the 2023 season, was previously the Browns’ offensive coordinator in 2019, calling plays for a talented team led by Freddie Kitchens.

General manager Andrew Berry has been at the helm in Cleveland since 2020 and will lead the Browns’ search for a new coach, though owner Jimmy Haslam is usually hands on as well.

Multiple reports stated that Harbaugh, who agreed to part ways with the Ravens after 18 years with the team, was unwilling to discuss moving on from Monken as his offensive coordinator, which was a “pressure point” in Baltimore.

It’s hard to argue with Harbaugh, as the Ravens were No. 6, No. 1 and No. 16 in yards under Monken the past three seasons.

The Browns could use that kind of offensive help, as the team finished 30th in total yards this season and 28th the year prior, despite Stefanski profiling as a top offensive mind in the league.

If the report of malcontent with ownership surrounding Monken is true, it could mean that Harbaugh’s right-hand man for calling plays could be available this offseason as well.

ESPN reported that seven teams reached out to Harbaugh, the Super Bowl 2012 winner, for interviews after his Baltimore exit despite only six teams having openings (not including the Ravens).

As the head coaching carousel continues to go around, the Ravens’ former coaches will be a hot topic as Baltimore looks to reshape its leadership after missing the playoffs.
