The Boston Celtics have a new sheriff in town.
Bill Chisholm, managing partner for Symphony Technology Group, has agreed to purchase the Celtics for $6.1 billion from the previous owners, the Grousbeck family, ESPN.com first reported.
The sale is the largest for an American sports franchise in history, barely eclipsing Washington Commanders’ sale of $6.05 billion to the Josh Harris group in July 2023.
There were many in the bidding for the team, including Jeff Bezos at one point.
STG is a Silicon Valley-based private equity firm with dozens of tech software under its umbrella.
The Celtics are coming off an NBA title in 2024 and are favored to repeat this year.
