New Yorkers should check their fridges as several ready-to-eat chicken and bacon wrap products sold in Price Chopper stores throughout the state have been recalled due to possible listeria contamination.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert May 13 for some Rachael’s Food Corporation-produced ready-to-eat chicken and bacon wrap products after a state public health partner notified the FSIS of a product sample that tested positive for listeria.

While the products haven’t been recalled by the company or the USDA since the affected products are no longer being sold, Price Chopper has issued a voluntary manufacturer recall “out of an extreme abundance of caution to ensure any remaining product in homes is properly discarded or returned,” Price Chopper’s said in a May 14 news release.

Here’s what to know.

Which products have been recalled

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued the warning for ready-to-eat chicken and bacon wrap products on May 13th due to the possibility of Listeria monocytogenes contamination which can cause listeriosis.

The affected products were shipped to distributors in New York and Massachusetts, the USDA says, and were then distributed to retail locations in New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. There haven’t been any confirmed reports of illness as a result of eating the products but there’s a concern some of the products may still be in consumers’ refrigerators.

Here’s which items are affected by the USDA’s public health alert:

  • 10-oz. clear plastic clamshell packages containing “Big Y quick easy meals CHICKEN BACON RANCH WRAP” with a sell-by date of 05/07/2025 and lot code 25122

  • 10-oz. clear plastic clamshell packages containing “MARKET 32 BY PRICE CHOPPER Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap” with a sell-through date of 05/07/2025 and lot code 25122

There are 80 Price Chopper locations in New York. Here’s which items have been recalled by Market 32 and Price Chopper:

  • Market 32 by Price Chopper brand Chicken Caesar wraps with UPC code 4173500762

  • Market 32 by Price Chopper brand Buffalo Chicken wraps with UPC code 4173500763

  • Market 32 by Price Chopper brand Chicken Bacon Ranch wraps with UPC code 4173505513

What symptoms you should look out for

Listeria symptoms can vary but the bacteria is most likely to sicken people who are pregnant and newborns, adults aged 65 and older and people with weakened immune systems, the CDC said.

Symptoms can include fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, seizures, diarrhea and vomiting.

What to do if you’ve purchased the recalled products

According to the USDA, you should not eat the affected products and either throw them away or return them to where you bought them from.

Price Chopper says many of the customers who have purchased the recalled products have been contacted through their Broadnet recall notification program, but if you still have the product, you should return them to your local Market 32 or Price Chopper store for a full refund.
