There could be a change coming to the Giants’ offensive line for Monday night’s game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Chris Hubbard, who arrived last week, took snaps at left tackle Thursday during practice.
“Yeah, absolutely, he’ll get reps there, and we’ll see where we’re at,’’ head coach Brian Daboll said.
Hubbard, 33, was signed off the 49ers practice squad.
He has 100 games of NFL experience with the Steelers, Browns and Titans.
Of his 58 starts, 51 were at right tackle. Hubbard said he played left tackle throughout the preseason this summer with the 49ers.
“I feel comfortable,’’ Hubbard said. “It’s all about hand and eye coordination, just switching sides; that’s really what it is. I’m willing to do whatever they need me to do to win.’’
Hubbard could be an option at left tackle against the Steelers as Daboll has not committed publicly to stick with Josh Ezeudu.
It was a rough 2024 debut for Ezeudu, who moved in for injured Andrew Thomas (out for the season following foot surgery) and allowed two sacks in the first quarter of last week’s 28-3 loss to the Eagles.
Hubbard brings far more experience, but he needs to get up to speed with the Giants’ offense and his new teammates.
“As ready as I need to be, man,’’ Hubbard said. “On game day, whatever they need from me, whatever they need, I’m willing to put my hand in the pile and go for it.’’
There is nothing imminent with offensive tackle D.J. Humphries, who Tuesday visited with the Giants.
Humphries, 30, was a 2015 first-round pick of the Cardinals with 98 NFL starts, primarily at left tackle. Humphries went down to a torn ACL in Week 17 last season, and he might not be ready to play yet.
“Nothing on the horizon right now,’’ Daboll said. “Had a good visit with him. I think he’s a good football player. If it’s the right fit, we’ll work something out, and if not, we won’t.’’
Bill Belichick has used his new media platform to say what he thinks about many things and recently he leveled some heavy shots at the Giants.
Belichick on the Pat McAfee show criticized the Giants for not retaining Saquon Barkley and for drafting and not playing Evan Neal, and he ripped the offensive line — all thinly veiled shots at general manager Joe Schoen.
Daboll used to work for Belichick with the Patriots, and he said, “Fill me in,’’ when informed of the harsh assessment of the Giants by his former boss.
“I would say that my focus is on our team, and we do everything we can do to be as good as we can be,’’ Daboll said. “And look, there’s things we’ve got to do better, but I can’t focus on the outside.’’
NT Dexter Lawrence (hip) did not practice. This was the approach taken last week with Lawrence to make sure he is as healthy as possible for the game.
CB Cor’Dale Flott (groin) did not practice, and Daboll made it sound as if Flott will miss another game. CB Adoree’ Jackson (neck), CB Tre Hawkins (ankle) and LB Ty Summers also did not practice.
P Jamie Gillan (hamstring) kicked on the side, which is progress from the past two weeks.
WR Jalin Hyatt, who cracked a rib in last week’s loss to the Eagles, was a full participant.
