ST. LOUIS – From food to clothing to supplies of all kinds, Confluence Academies and the Little Bit Foundation came together to help Confluence families affected by the May 16 tornado.

“Today we are working in collaboration with the Little Bit Foundation to provide all of our families and the community support services,” said Leslie Muhammad, director of Student Services & Parent Involvement at Confluence Academies.

Among the four St. Louis charter schools that make up the Confluence Academies, 900 students have been affected.

Confluence Academies is launching a community-wide relief effort to support families in need. More than a third of its students directly impacted, the school network will collect and distribute essential supplies at Confluence Academy.

“What they’re doing right now is great,” said Audrianna Weathers, a Confluence parent.  “We didn’t take such a big loss, but some people have nothing. Living in their car even if they have a car. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life.”

Items needed for donation include:

  • Hygiene products and toiletries

  • Non-perishable food and bottled water

  • Blankets, sheets, pillows, air mattresses and sleeping bags.

  • Paper towels and toilet paper

  • Baby and toddler summer clothes

“Surprisingly enough, we have families that need air mattresses and pillows because we have families that are doubling up in homes,” Muhammad said. “So, you name it, we’re welcoming it.”
