Southwest Iowa residents can pay a tribute to former President Jimmy Carter on Saturday at the Council Bluffs Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
The ReStore will have a doorway set up at 1228 S. Main St. from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. along with 2-by-4 blocks of wood for people to sign.
The 2-by-4s will eventually be installed in one of the new construction houses that the nonprofit organizations builds. The opportunity is also being offered at Omaha’s ReStores.
Photos of the exhibits as well as copies of the notes will be sent by the ReStores to the Carter Center in Atlanta.
Separately, Iowa PBS is exploring the legacy of Carter in Iowa with its weekly “Iowa Press” show.
Michael Mauro, former Iowa secretary of state and a volunteer for Carter’s 1976 presidential campaign, and David Yepsen, former journalist at the Des Moines Register, discussed Carter’s legacy, his ties to Iowa and his impact on the Iowa caucuses on the show, according to a news release.
