It appears that Cristiano Ronaldo’s wedding to Georgina Rodriguez is not as set in stone as initially believed—at least as it pertains to the wedding’s date.
Last week, reports indicated that Ronaldo and Rodriguez were planning to get tie the knot in Ronaldo’s hometown of Madeira, Portugal, on Saturday, in a cathedral on the island’s capital city.
However, reports have now surfaced that that is not the case.
Portuguese television presenter Adriano Silva spoke with Ronaldo’s sisters, Katia and Elma Aveiro, and both denied that Ronaldo was getting married this year, let alone this weekend.
What’s more, a report from U.S. latino publication Hola! reportedly contacted the cathedral that had been listed at Ronaldo and Rodriguez’s wedding venue, but there was no wedding booked in either Ronaldo or Rodríguez’s names.
In hindsight, it would have been strange if arguably the world’s most famous athlete was getting married in a few days and there were essentially no public details about it.
Not to mention that Ronaldo has been hanging out on yachts with Rodriguez since Portugal’s World Cup run ended, suggesting that the two are not busy with final wedding preparations.
It is safe to assume that once more concrete details about this wedding surface, they will quickly be made public. In the mean time, Ronaldo’s massive fan base will seemingly have to keep waiting for him to get a ring on his finger.
