Many of the world’s biggest stars have already produced during the 2026 World Cup.

Norway star striker Erling Haaland produced two goals in his country’s first match, Argentinian legend and arguably GOAT Lionel Messi scored his first ever World Cup hat trick last week, and Kylian Mbappé added two goals to his own tally in France’s first game. And all three of these stars’ teams secured a victory.

The one superstar who didn’t live up to expectations was Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo. He didn’t score in his team’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Congo DR, and he has received a lot of criticism for his uninspired performance.

Ronaldo is no stranger to scrutiny, and has plenty of time to turn his World Cup fortunes around in Portugal’s next two group stage games.

However, it appears that the criticism he’s facing has irked his sister, Katia Aveiro, who is a Portuguese pop singer.

Aveiro went viral for an Instagram story post in the wake of Portugal’s draw that said (in roughly translated English), “Magically, they forgot how to pass, win the ball back, and launch counter-attacks. The game became all about passing backwards in midfield. Strange World Cup. Very strange. 😳😳🙂🙂🙂”.

The story didn’t end there. on Friday afternoon, Aveiro made a flurry of posts to her Instagram story where she’s wearing a Brazil outfit before they face Haiti in the World Cup.

This raised eyebrows, given that Aveiro’s brother is the biggest star in Portugal sports history. However, there is a fair explanation: Aveiro is married to Brazilian businessman Alexandre Bertolucci, with whom she has a daughter.

Therefore, Aveiro does have a connection to Brazil. But it’s still strange seeing her support another country, given that her brother is in the middle of what’s likely his final World Cup.
