Dave Portnoy watched Ohio State’s epic collapse on Saturday night as a proud Wolverine.
The Barstool Sports founder and Michigan alum slammed Ohio State kicker Jayden Fielding and coach Ryan Day for the decisive missed field goal that cost the No. 1-ranked Buckeyes in the Big Ten championship game against No. 2 Indiana.
The Buckeyes, trailing 13–10 with just under three minutes to go, were well-positioned to even up the score when Day rolled out the special teams unit for a field-goal attempt from 27 yards out instead of going for it on fourth-and-1.
Fielding, who had knocked down 16 of 18 attempts this season and dunked a 30-yarder in the first half, shanked the kick wide left to seal the team’s fate.
Portnoy quickly hopped on social media not only to shred the senior kicker, but also to lambast Day for his less-than-courageous play-calling in the final minutes of the game — all while trolling the fan base of his alma mater’s fiercest rival.
“What a p—y move kicking the [field goal] on 4th and 1,” he wrote. “And then an absolute choke job kick.”
“Same old Ohio State,” he added in a subsequent post, both of which were peppered with laughing emojis. “Get them in a close game and they roll over. No guts. Congrats to Indiana on a great season. Going undefeated in the conference is something only great teams do. Will Ohio ever win the Big 10 again? I can’t wait to hear the excuses.”
Curt Cignetti’s Hoosiers (13–0) held on to secure their first Big Ten championship since 1967 and hand the defending national champion Buckeyes (12–1) their first loss since November 2024 — which ironically came against Michigan by a score of 13–10 and was decided by a late-game Wolverines field goal.
Portnoy, whose Wolverines won the Big Ten in three straight seasons from 2021-23 to end Ohio State’s four-year reign, threw a few more jabs at the Buckeyes and their fans in a two-minute video posted shortly thereafter.
“I actually feel bad for Ohio State fans,” Portnoy captioned the video, which captured him repping a Michigan cap and smiling ear-to-ear, “because deep down they know if you don’t win the Big 10 you can’t be considered great.”
With the loss, Ohio State will likely drop to the second seed in the College Football Playoff and maintain a first-round bye as it attempts to win back-to-back national titles.
