Demi Moore’s 2025 Met Gala ensemble is to tie for.
The actress and PEOPLE’s World’s Most Beautiful cover star appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5 in a Thom Browne gown made to look like a men’s tie.
The bust of her dress was meant to recreate a knot, and the skirt was made to look like the neck. The tie’s loop was placed right over Moore’s head, acting as a sort of hat. The Substance actress, 62, paired her look with a pair of black-and-white pom-pom heels.
According to Vogue, the garment boasted over 1,400,000 beads — including 22,000 pieces of black rectangle sequins, 103,500 pieces of black cut beads, and 1,093,500 pieces of black bugle beads. It took more than 7,600 hours to make.

The event is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute. It spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
The Met Gala’s dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting.

At last year’s Met Gala, Moore shut down the red carpet in an elegant structural gown by Harris Reed that nodded to the theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
Speaking with Ashley Graham on the Vogue red carpet, the star said the pink-and-white floral dress was “not heavy at all” and in fact, it made her “want to rumba.”
Moore previously attended the Met Gala in 2019 in a plunging black Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello column gown and Harry Winston jewelry. Prior to that, she had not attended the gala since 2011.
Moore is coming off of a whirlwind year following the May 2024 premiere of her film The Substance at Cannes. The role earned the actress critical acclaim and numerous accolades. She kicked off the award season with a Best Actress win at the Critics Choice Awards, and went on to take home the same title at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and Golden Globes. She also received an Oscar nomination.
“As somebody put it to me, it’s been like a full pregnancy — really joyous moments, exhausting moments,” Moore shared in her PEOPLE World’s Most Beautiful interview. “But overall it was an extraordinary time and experience. Especially because all of it was unexpected. I had no idea what might happen with this film. And I certainly could never have imagined it unfolding the way that it did.”

The Landman actress has also enjoyed a red carpet resurgence. At the Critics Choice Awards, Moore opted for a form-fitting Schiaparelli Couture corset gown, paired with an updo and dark blue heels. For the Golden Globes, the nominee and presenter appeared in a custom Giorgio Armani Privé strapless champagne silk gown featuring a curved geometric detail embellished with Swarovski crystals.
The star went for an edgier style at the SAG Awards, wearing a drop-waist Bottega Veneta leather gown.

In her interview for TIME‘s 100, Moore said she realized Anora star Mikey Madison was going to win the Oscar during the commercial break that preceded the award’s presentation.
“I leaned over and whispered to my manager, ‘I think it’s going to Mikey,’ ” Moore recalled of the moment to TIME.
“I don’t know why I knew, but I did,” she added. “I was so centered and calm. I didn’t feel gutted. I didn’t feel any of those kinds of things. I just trusted, and am in trust of, whatever is going to unfold.”
