Donald Trump’s sentencing in his Manhattan hush money case will likely be delayed for at least two weeks in light of his bid to throw out the case in light of the U.S Supreme Court’s immunity ruling.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office wrote in a letter to the court Tuesday it does “not oppose” pushing back Trump’s sentencing on his felony business records convictions so that Justice Juan Merchan has time to rule on Trump’s claim that prosecutors inappropriately used trial evidence from Trump’s time as president.
“Although we believe defendant’s arguments to be without merit, we do not oppose his request for leave to file and his putative request to adjourn sentencing pending determination of his motion,” prosecutors wrote.
They asked for a deadline of July 24 to respond to Trump’s motion, which is expected to be filed sometime this week.
If the timeline is approved by the judge, Trump won’t be sentenced until July 25 at the earliest.
