A dream came true for Danny Amendola and Witney Carson while preparing for their latest Dancing With the Stars performance.

After performing a Deadpool & Wolverine-inspired jazz routine on the show’s October 22 Disney Night episode, the pair exclusively told Us Weekly that they would “freak out” if either Ryan Reynolds or Hugh Jackman reached out to them. And it turns out, one half of the superhero duo did send a message.

Carson, 31, exclusively told Us that she and Amendola, 38, did, in fact, freak out when Reynolds, 48, posted about their dance on social media.

“We were at rehearsal when he reposted [Danny] the first time, and then I posted it separately on my page, and then [Ryan] reposted mine, which was really cool,” she explained after the show’s Tuesday, October 29, Halloween Nightmares episode, referring to her and her partner’s respective Instagram posts about the routine. “And then we sent him a video just, like, thanking him for reposting us and giving us credit. It was just really cool. He’s a cool guy.”

According to Amendola, Reynolds replied to their video with one of his own. “[He] just [showed us] love and just [said he] appreciate[d] the support,” the former NFL star shared. “Obviously, Deadpool’s a lot of people’s favorite movie, so it was good to get that support from him.”

The partners earned a score of 27 points for their Disney Night routine, which was inspired by Deadpool & Wolverine’s opening fight scene set to “Bye Bye Bye” by ‘NSync. They ended the night with a total of 35 points after their group dance score was added.

Amendola and Carson earned a score of 28 points for their spooky Argentine tango to the RAVN song “Poison” on Tuesday night. They failed to snag any bonus points during the dance-off round after losing to Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson.

While Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli each gave the pair nines, Carrie Ann Inaba disagreed with her fellow judges’ critiques about hunched shoulders and footwork and awarded them a 10.

“This routine was really technically difficult, so we worked really hard on the technique, the footwork of this one,” Carson told Us. “The lifts were obviously very advanced and very technical as well, so it was just really great to get that 10 to just really feel like we’re doing good and we’re stepping up, and we’re getting better and better.”

Amendola joked that his “brain felt like mush” learning the advanced routine, adding, “We kind of buckled down towards the end, Sunday, Monday. We got the lifts down and kind of cleaned up some technical stuff, so it ended up working out for us.”

Amendola and Carson made it through to the next round of the competition, while Jenn Tran and Sasha Farber were eliminated. DWTS will return after a one-week hiatus on Tuesday, November 12, for the show’s 500th episode special.

Dancing With the Stars airs simultaneously on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays on ABC at 8 p.m. ET. You can stream episodes on Disney+ the next day.
