CANANDAIGUA — Nearly 4,100 Ontario County voters took advantage of early voting this election season.
Turnout for early voting, which started Oct. 25 and ended Nov. 2, was about two-thirds higher than it was in 2023, which was another local election year, according to Board of Elections officials. Turnout is typically higher during a presidential election year, such as 2024.
In all, 4,098 turned out this fall for early voting, weighing in on races for town supervisors and other town offices, Canandaigua city mayor and City Council, and some Geneva city, county and judge races.
In 2023, 2,464 hit the polls early. In 2021, the board reported 1,146 early voters; in 2019, 1,413 were reported.
The number of early voters this year in Ontario County nearly reached 4,100 people, according to the Board of Elections.
Election Day in Ontario County
Forty-four Ontario County poll sites will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 4 for in-person voting.
A complete list of election districts and poll sites is available at https://www.ontariocountyny.gov/DocumentCenter/View/43463/PollingPlaces2024-1.

Ontario County vote by mail, absentee ballots
More than 1,300 county voters completed and returned early vote by mail and absentee ballots to the Board of Elections, and officials said they continue to receive mail-in ballots daily.
Fewer than 1,000 early by mail and absentee ballots sent to voters remain unreturned.
To be accepted for counting, returned ballots must bear a post mark of Election Day or earlier. Voters returning their ballots using U.S. Postal Service mail drop boxes should be mindful of posted mail pickup times and aware that it may be up to one day before postage cancellation marks are applied to envelopes.
Voters can also drop off their completed mail-in ballots at any Election Day poll site or at the Board of Elections office until 9 p.m.
Unofficial Ontario County election results
The board will begin releasing unofficial election results after polls close at 9 p.m. Election night results will be updated frequently until returns are received from all 92 county election districts.
