A whopping eight California pizzerias managed to slice their way onto a new list of America’s top pizza joints — but not a single one in Los Angeles or its surrounding suburbs made the cut.
Instead, the Bay Area hogged nearly all the dough — with seven of the Golden State’s winners clustered around San Francisco, Oakland and Silicon Valley.
The saucy shutout comes courtesy of delivery giant DoorDash, which unveiled its 2026 “Top Pizza Spots” list in celebration of National Pizza Month — deep-dishing out bragging rights to 40 neighborhood pizzerias across the country.
While California dominated the western portion of the rankings, LA’s sprawling pizza scene was nowhere to be found.
The list, released Oct. 13, was compiled using a year’s worth of DoorDash customer ratings, from September 2025 through September 2026.
To qualify, restaurants needed at least 1,000 customer reviews, fewer than 10 locations and some of the highest average ratings on the platform.
When the dust settled, hungry app users overwhelmingly gave out five-star ratings for NorCal faves.
San Francisco’s Golden Boy Pizza, famous for its chunky square slices and signature clam and garlic pie, was among the winners.
SF scored two more winners with Little Star Pizza, known for its deep-dish offerings, and Outta Sight, which serves thin New York-style pies.
Also earning a spot was Zachary’s Chicago Pizza in Oakland, whose hearty stuffed pies have long offered diners a taste of the Windy City.
DoorDash specifically singled out the restaurant’s stuffed spinach and mushroom pizza as a standout.
Meanwhile, Silicon Valley proved it knows a thing or two about pizza, with San Jose’s A Slice of New York Pizza, Campbell’s Blue Line Pizza and Luigi’s Pizza & Pasta all making the cut.
The lone California winner outside the Bay Area was Mike’s Pizza of Sonora, located in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
For LA pizza enthusiasts, the cheesy snub is particularly tough to swallow as the city’s pizza scene has enjoyed a culinary renaissance recently, with acclaimed shops drawing lengthy lines and international recognition.
But the DoorDash results don’t necessarily mean Angelenos are getting inferior pies, it turns out — just that the city’s pizzerias didn’t manage to crack the platform’s rating-based selection.
“Every neighborhood has a spot people are fiercely loyal to,” said Ruth Isenstadt, Head of U.S. Restaurants at DoorDash. “This list celebrates the restaurants that earn that loyalty order after order, and the people behind them who keep finding ways to make a familiar favorite their own.”
The latest blow to LA’s belaguered restaurant scene was softened, however, by the recent announcement of a separate national pizza ranking from Food & Wine — where no less than three Los Angeles spots making the cut on an even more exclusive list of the 27 best pizzas in the country.
Pijja Palace in Silver Lake, Pizzeria Sei in Palms and Quarter Sheets in Echo Park were tapped for the prestigious honor.
