Quincy Williams made good on his fair warning to the Jets before Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium.
Williams, who played for the Jets from 2021 to 2025 before they opted not to re-sign him and he signed with the Browns, vowed to be a “nightmare playing against me’’ for the Jets if they didn’t re-sign him.
“So, the nightmare starts on Sunday,’’ he told reporters during the week.
The 30-year-old linebacker backed his words up, forcing three Jets fumbles, one of which was recovered by the Browns, and leading all players with 11 tackles.
After the game, a 17-12 Jets win, Williams was less bombastic. “We’re kind of down about that since we gave up two scores,’’ he said. “Me playing a good game and all the other linebackers playing a good game, I’m not going to say that it doesn’t matter, but it wasn’t enough, so … ’’
The only Jets injury in the game was to rookie TE Kenyon Sadiq, who was knocked out of the game and into concussion protocol on a vicious hit by Williams, who caused a fumble that was recovered by Cleveland on the play.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Sadiq is “fine,’’ adding, “He checked out just fine, he just has to go through the process.’’
Receiver Tim Patrick made his Jets debut Sunday after missing the first four games with a groin injury. He caught two passes for 26 yards, but his day didn’t begin very well. He was called for a holding penalty on their first play from scrimmage, nullifying a 13-yard run by RB Braelon Allen. Later, he dropped a pass on his first target.
“It wasn’t a great start, obviously,’’ Patrick said. “But I felt like I continued to fight through it, focused on playing hard and making winning plays — a fumble recovery, a sealing block on a touchdown (by Braelon Allen), being in the right spots, a couple first downs. I gave myself a seat at the table, but we won, so that’s what matters.’’
Linebacker David Bailey wasn’t the only Jets rookie defender who had a big game Sunday. DT Darrell Jackson Jr., a fourth-round draft pick, had two batted passes at the line of scrimmage and his first career sack.
“It felt good, just coming into the league and contributing to my team early,’’ Jackson told The Post. “My coach put me out there in a big moment, so I feel like he trusted me to go out there and contribute.’’
He said the first career sack “felt amazing.’’
Jets veteran safety Minkah Fitzpatrick had two personal foul penalties called on him early in the game — the first of which was a face mask and the second a high helmet hit on Browns WR KC Concepcion Jr, knocking him out of the game with a concussion.
Of the eight sacks by the Jets, Bailey had three, DL Jowon Briggs, Jackson Jr., CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr., edge rusher Will McDonald IV and S Dane Belton each had one.
