Unbroken newspaper service in Middletown began with The Whig Press in 1851, and the Times Herald-Record was born out of the 1960 merger of the Times Herald and the Middletown Daily Record.
The Times Herald-Record serves readers in Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties in New York.

Awards won by the Times Herald-Record
Reporter Chris McKenna received the first place Business Writing award in the 2022 Journalists Association of New York Awards competition, Division I, for his story on the transformation of the Mid-Orange Correctional Facility.
Other recent accolades won by The Times Herald-Record include the 2021 and 2020 awards for Distinguished Headline Writing in the New York News Publishers Association contest in its respective circulation category. The three 2020 cover story headlines included “READ MY LIPS, Making life a bit less stressful for special needs communities” for a story about a local mask maker who designed face masks with clear inserts; “POMP AND DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES, Graduation 2020 twist: home delivery” for a story about how the COVID-19 pandemic changed high school graduations; and “DINO-MIGHT? Theme park plan features an educational twist” for a story about a proposed Dinosaur theme park for town of Wallkill.

The Times Herald-Record’s print edition is produced in Rockaway, New Jersey. Its reporters live and work in the Middletown, New York area, although we receive support from journalists across the country as part of the USA TODAY Network.
