House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Sunday he is a “hard yes” on impeaching embattled Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

“I’m a hard yes on the Hegseth resolution,” Jeffries (D-NY) told ABC’s “This Week.”

“The so-called secretary of defense has abused his power, undermined our national security and engineered this reckless and costly war of choice in Iran,” he said. “Pete Hegseth has got to go.”

The resolution is the work of Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), a Trump foe who lost his primary this year and has promised to force a vote on eight articles of impeachment once the House returns this week.

The measure’s odds improved Tuesday, when the Democrats seized both chambers of Congress in an electoral beating many Republicans blame on voter ire over the war.

House GOP leaders now expect enough defections to pass it, Axios reported Sunday, chiefly from members who lost their seats and have little left to lose.

Jeffries, who is poised to take the speaker’s gavel in January, said Democrats would discuss the resolution Tuesday, when the caucus meets for the first time since the election.
Inside the administration, opinion is divided. An unidentified Trump adviser told Axios last week the secretary was “definitely on thin ice.”

Trump, for his part, has said otherwise. Asked Wednesday whether he would replace Hegseth, the president replied: “No, I think he’s going a very good job.”

The secretary himself hasn’t bent, either. In a video posted to X on Thursday, he called Massie “a disgruntled, defeated congressman” and dismissed the articles as a “sham.”
