FORT MYERS, Fla. — Aaliyah Moore scored 20 points to lift fifth-ranked Texas to a 78-73 victory over No. 12 West Virginia in the Gulf Coast Showcase championship on Sunday.

Madison Booker added 19 points, Kyla Oldacre 13 and Justice Carlton 10 for the Longhorns.

J.J. Quinerly scored 29 points, Jordan Harrison 20 and Sydney Shaw 10 for West Virginia (8-1).

Texas (7-0) had numerous 11-point leads, but a 10-1 Mountaineers run drew them within 48-46 after a Kyah Watson layup.

West Virginia made its run when Moore picked up her fourth foul with 4:51 left in the third quarter.

The Longhorns pushed the lead back up to 72-62 with 1:36 left, but a three-pointer by Shaw cut it to 74-73 with 43 seconds left.

That’s all the Mountaineers would score.

NO. 1 UCLA 70,

HAWAII 49

HONOLULU — Kiki Rice scored 14 of her 21 points before halftime to lead No. 1 UCLA to a win over Hawaii in the final day of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.

Lauren Betts added 18 points but saw her string of five consecutive double-doubles end. Gabriela Jacquez had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Bruins (8-0).

Rice shot 7 of 10 from the floor, including a pair from beyond the arc and made all five of her free throws.

Lily Wahinekapu scored 10 points for the Rainbow Wahine (5-2), who saw their five-game win streak come to an end.

Hawaii was limited to 14-of-53 shooting from the floor and 6 of 25 from distance.

UCLA led 32-29 at the half.

NO. 13 DUKE 77,

COLUMBIA 61

DURHAM, N.C. — Reigan Richardson scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead No. 13 Duke to a victory over Columbia.

Columbia led for a few minutes in the early going, the last time at 11-10. Duke then went on a 12-2 run on the way to a 25-17 lead after one quarter.

Columbia was within 38-30 late in the second quarter before Duke closed out the half with a three-pointer from Vanessa de Jesus and a jumper by Jadyn Donovan. The Blue Devils shot 58% in the first quarter and 57% in the second to build a 43-30 halftime lead.

Duke’s largest lead of the third quarter was 18 points with 4 1/2 minutes to go. Later, Columbia scored the last five points of the period to get within 63-51 heading to the fourth.

NO. 7 LSU 131,

N.C. CENTRAL 44

BATON ROUGE — Flau’Jae Johnson scored 22 points and Aneesah Morrow had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 7 LSU to a victory over North Carolina Central.

The Tigers (9-0) narrowly missed setting the school record for most points in a game and gave Kim Mulkey her 100th career victory as LSU’s head coach.

Including Johnson and Morrow, eight Tigers scored in double figures. Kailyn Gilbert had 19, Sa’Myah Smith 13, Last Tear-Poa 12 and Mikaylah Williams, Jersey Wolfenbarger (Fort Smith Northside) and Jada Richard 10 each.

N.C. Central (0-9) was led by Morgan Callahan with 13 points.

NO. 10 MARYLAND 92,

TOLEDO 70

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Saylor Poffenbarger had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Kaylene Smikle scored 17 points, and No. 10 Maryland defeated Toledo in the Navy Classic.

The Terrapins (8-0) never trailed and shot 60.3% from the floor.

Maryland is off to its best start since winning 12 in a row to begin the 2018-19 season.

Nan Garcia had 13 points for the Rockets (4-2).

NO. 22 XAVIER 71,

S. CAROLINA STATE 68

CINCINNATI — Zach Freemantle scored 17 points, Dayvion McKnight scored 13 of his 14 in the second half and Trey Green made 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in the final 12 seconds to help No. 22 Xavier hold on for a win over South Carolina State.

Xavier (7-1) opened the season with six consecutive wins before a 78-53 loss to Michigan on Thursday in the championship game at the Fort Myers Tip-Off.

Xavier used a 14-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 58-45 when Jerome Hunter, who finished with 10 points, made a layup with 5:38 remaining. The Bulldogs scored the next 12 points, capped when Omar Croskey hit a three-pointer and followed with a dunk that made it a one-point game about 3 minutes later.

The Musketeers made 10 of 12 from the free-throw line from there to seal it.

Croskey scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half for South Carolina State (4-5), Michael Teal finished with 14 and Mitchell Taylor added 11 — nine after halftime.

STATE MEN

HOFSTRA 68, ARKANSAS STATE 66

After playing to a 29-29 halftime tie, Hofstra (6-3) built a 14-point lead in the second half and held off a furious late rally to knock off Arkansas State 68-66 at the Baha Mar Convention Center in Nassau, Bahamas.

Hofstra guard Cruz Davis scored a game-high 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Michael Graham recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Pride. Jean Aranguren also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points in the win.

Arkansas State (5-3) was led by Derrian Ford, who knocked down a trio of three-pointers and scored a team-high 17 points. Kobe Julien finished with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Joseph Pinion added 12 points off the bench for the Red Wolves, who ended their weekend trip to the Bahamas with a record of 1-2.

KANSAS STATE 120, UAPB 73

A record-setting offensive performance allowed Kansas State (6-2) to easily beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan.

Achor Achor scored 21 points off the bench for the Wildcats, who broke the school’s scoring record for points in a single game. The previous mark was 116 points, which was set against Texas in 2023. Kansas State also knocked down 21 three-pointers, with David Castillo hitting five.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 17-3 lead after four minutes and were never in any danger en route to sending the Golden Lions (1-8) to their seventh straight loss. Dug McDaniel scored 18 points and handed out 10 assists while both Castillo and David N’Guessan finished with 17 points. Kansas State also got 14 points from Brendan Hausen and 12 from Max Jones as it shot 40 of 65 (61.5%) and scored 32 points off 20 turnovers.

Chop Paljor led the Golden Lions with 15 points. Dante Sawyer scored 12 points and Kyle Brown contributed 10. UAPB hit 32 of 68 (47.1%) field goals but made just 6 of 28 (21.4%) from three-point range.

STATE WOMEN

NO. 9 KANSAS STATE 86, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 39

The University of Central Arkansas dropped its second game of the season Sunday afternoon as it was overwhelmed by Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan.

The Sugar Bears (4-2) were outscored by the Wildcats 29-5 in the first quarter and 52-13 in the first half. UCA outscored Kansas State 14-9 in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to less than 50 points.

Five Kansas State players reached double-figure scoring, with another finishing with nine. Serena Sundell led the Wildcats (7-1) with 17 points, followed by Taryn Sides’ 15 points.

Randrea Wright and Jade Upshaw led UCA eight points each. The Sugar Bears shot 28% from the field, while the Wildcats shot 53% and made 12 of 25 three-pointers.

The Sugar Bears, who led the country in three-pointers made coming into the game, made just 2 of 19. Bree Stephens and Destine Duckworth each hit one.

NORTH ALABAMA 62, UAPB 48

A cold-shooting first quarter put Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a bind that it couldn’t find a way out of during its loss to North Alabama at H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff.

UAPB (2-6) went 4 of 16 (25%) in the opening period and eventually trailed 33-17 at halftime. The Golden Lions managed to get within 13 points midway through the third quarter and 11 points late in the fourth quarter, but that was as closed as they would get.

Alyssa Clutter had 14 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists for North Alabama (4-3), which outrebounded UAPB 50-36. Sarang West finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, while Rhema Pegues had 10 points and 4 rebounds in the victory.

Janiyah Tucker’s 14 points and five steals led UAPB, which was 16 of 59 (27.1%) shooting compared to 24 of 57 (42.1%) for the Lions. Kristyna Boyd also netted 12 points in the loss.
