Tomatoes sold by Gordon Food Service Stores in 11 states, including New York, have been recalled for possible salmonella contamination.

Indiana-based Ray & Mascari Inc. announced the recall of its 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes on May 2 after being notified by Hanshaw & Capling Farms of Florida that it was recalling the lot of tomatoes it sent to be repackaged into the affected product due to the possible presence of salmonella in its facility, according to the Food & Drug Administration.

Here’s what to know about the recall.

No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the recall announcement.

Where are Gordon Food Service Store locations in New York?

According to the Gordon Food Service Store website, there is only one location in New York — 1959 Elmwood Ave. in Buffalo.

Salmonella symptoms to look out for

Most people infected with salmonella experience diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, the CDC said, with symptoms beginning six hours to six days after ingesting the bacteria.

And while most people recover without treatment after four to seven days, some people — such as children younger than five, adults 65 or older and people with weakened immune systems — may experience more severe illnesses that require medical treatment or hospitalization.
