GLENDALE, Ariz. — Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and the defending World Series champion L.A. Dodgers host Craig Counsel and the Cubs in an MLB spring training exhibition opener from Camelback Ranch at 3 p.m. Eastern on MLB Network.

Ohtani, the National League MVP, threw his first bullpen session of spring training on Saturday as he looks to return to the mound for the first time since 2023.

The two clubs will open the regular season in Tokyo as part of a two-game series March 18-19.

Ohtani appeared in 159 regular season games last year, stealing 59 bases and smashing 54 home runs on his way to a third MVP honor. He was named Male Athlete of the Year for 2024 by the Associated Press.
