Influencer Nicole Lopes is mourning the death of her boyfriend, Thauan Pedro, in a drowning accident. He was 20.
“My eternal love 🩶😭” Lopes captioned a series of videos shared via Instagram on Friday, January 2.
Brazilian digital news outlet Metrópoles reported that Pedro and his 10-year-old nephew were involved in a drowning accident on a beach in Praia Grande in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday.
The outlet reported that a rescue team pulled Pedro’s nephew from the water and administered lifesaving measures after others at the beach noticed that the twosome were missing.
The team was unable to locate Pedro for nearly 90 minutes. He was pronounced dead at the scene when he was discovered. The outlet reported that his body was taken to the morgue at the Samambaia Emergency Care Unit for legal procedures.
In the days after Pedro’s death, Lopes has shared a series of posts paying tribute to him. In one black-and-white snap, Pedro placed his arm around Lopes as the pair smiled for the camera.
“If we met at 15, if we part ways at 17, we meet again at 19, and I lost you at 20,” Lopes wrote via Instagram on Saturday, January 3.
In the comments section of the post, several users shared their condolences.
“May God comfort your heart 🖤,” one user wrote, translated to English, while another added in a translated message, “Be strong for him my love. May God comfort your heart 😢❤️.”
In a separate post, Lopes shared that she was considering going to Pedro’s house for the first time after his death — but then said she “couldn’t” because of her grief.
“I need to go, I need to get back to my routine, unfortunately life goes on, the bills keep coming, and my Thauan must be so angry seeing me in this state,” she wrote via Instagram on Monday, January 5, People reported. “Everything is difficult.”
In another upload, Lopes — who has amassed more than 317,000 followers on Instagram — shared that she briefly went to her mother-in-law’s home.
“I went to my mother-in-law’s place and now I came back home, this blouse of my Thauan was in the car, I put it on without thinking twice,” she wrote in a translated message. “It smells like my love.”
Lopes went on to share a black-and-white photo of Pedro sleeping, writing in a translated message, “You’re in every room of my house, Isis’ room you helped me organize everything before we went on a trip 😢, in the kitchen there are your clothes that I separated to wash, in the bedroom there are the wipes we took off the rod, in the bathroom there is your anti-dandruff shampoo, and in the living room I stay with this image of you taking a nap while I was getting ready to go out.”
Metrópoles reported that Pedro’s family held a funeral on Sunday, January 4, at Vila Formosa cemetery in São Paulo. The funeral reportedly included motorcycle revving and tributes from loved ones.
