Iowa’s Legislative Black Caucus is speaking out after a slew of bills dismantling diversity, equity and inclusion in Iowa passed out of the House on Tuesday.

They argued it’s moving Iowa backwards and claimed DEI is about learning and celebrating differences while figuring out how to work together.

“That was a reason why it has taken over with corporations with schools, with opportunities, with fairness,” State Rep. Rob Johnson (D-Des Moines) said. “It didn’t just happen. It came about because there was, this was a solution to an issue and a problem that was facing not just Iowa, but was facing us here in America and so dismantling that dismantles the progress that Iowa has pushed for.”

Now their message to Iowans who want to get involved and stop these bills from advancing is to show up at the capitol and voice their concerns to lawmakers.
