After Election Day, Planned Parenthood reported a 760% increase in IUD appointments and 1200% increase in vasectomies.
The increase reported was specifically for Nov. 6, 2024, as compared with Nov. 5, 2024. Further, the “1200% increase in vasectomies” was for vasectomy appointments made on that date, not the number of procedures performed.
A rumor alleging that the reproductive health care nonprofit organization Planned Parenthood reported a significant increase in intrauterine device (IUD) appointments and vasectomies following Election Day in the United States circulated online in November 2024.
One post on X sharing the claim said, “After Election Day, Planned Parenthood is reporting: 760% increase in IUD appointments, 1200% increase in vasectomies. Today’s Leftist ideology is built on fear of children, the future, and life itself. Truly sad.” The post had nearly 2 million views as of this writing.

The person who posted the original claim, Lila Rose, is the founder of the anti-abortion organization Live Action.
There were thousands of replies to the post, with one user responding, “Setting aside any concern for the souls of these people, their self-removal from the gene pool is a service to their country.” Another said, “Well that will thin out the Left’s gene pool. Not such a bad idea.”
One other person added, “LOL – you are the ones that attacked reproductive freedom. Excuse women for not wanting to risk dying for your religious control. Excuse men for not wanting to be forced into fatherhood with a dead wife because of your religious control.”
Danika Severino Wynn, vice president of care and access for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, confirmed to Snopes that the numbers mentioned in the claim were accurate. However, Wynn clarified that the alleged “1200% increase in vasectomies” is more accurately vasectomy appointments. Because of the wording in the original claim, Snopes is rating it as mostly true.
Crucially, there is additional important context. The numbers reflected in the Planned Parenthood statistics are for only Nov. 6, 2024, as compared with the previous day, the day of the U.S. presidential election.
In addition, the statistics provided reference appointments made only at Planned Parenthood health centers in the United States, and not any other sites that provide reproductive health care.
Wynn said:
Americans may be rightfully feeling fearful and worried about the prospect of further restrictions on our freedom to control our bodies. Waking up on November 6, they rushed to Planned Parenthood for help.
People are searching the Planned Parenthood website for trusted information and health care services, as always. But the trends we see make it clear that access to sexual and reproductive health care is top of mind for many — especially those who live in states where abortion care has already been banned or restricted.
In addition to the data mentioned in the post on X, Wynn shared additional statistics for the day after the election:
Visits to the main web page on sterilization (tubal ligation) increased by 1700%.
Traffic to the web page on vasectomy appointments increased by 1200%.
Visits to the web pages on general IUD information and how to get an IUD increased by 500% and 1200%, respectively.
Birth control implant appointments scheduled increased by 350%.
Gender-affirming care appointments scheduled increased by 140%.
Though the claim was in reference to Planned Parenthood affiliates specifically, CBS News reported that it was not the only sexual health organization reporting a spike in contraceptives and reproductive health care.
Included in the CBS News report was a 966% increase in sales of the “morning-after pill” from Winx Health in the days following the election.
Snopes has fact-checked the claims surrounding reproductive health during the 2024 U.S. presidential election at length, including what a “minimum national standard” for abortion actually means, Vice President Kamala Harris’ response to anti-abortion demonstrators during a rally and the rumor that Planned Parenthood provided free abortions and vasectomies at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
