Devils fans are feeling a sense of déjà vu, and not in a good way.

Jack Hughes left Sunday night’s loss to the Golden Knights late in the third period after he went tumbling into the boards hard and appeared to be holding his shoulder.

The Devils star forward got tangled up with Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel near the net, which sent the two down to the ice and Hughes slamming into the endboards — with his upper body taking the brunt of the force.

Eichel immediately got up and checked on Hughes as he was down on the ice clearly in pain before a team trainer immediately rushed to check on the young forward.

Hughes did skate off the ice under his own power, but he went straight to the Devils’ locker room.

Following the game, Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe didn’t have many details on Hughes’ status.

“Real hard to see him go down,” Keefe told reporters. “There’s no update. He’s going to have to be evaluated. Obviously it didn’t look good. We’re gonna have to take our time to know the full extent of it.”

In the midst of the chaos, Keefe was also been ejected from the game with just under two minutes left on the clock after he appeared to make a passionate argument in the direction of the refs following Hughes’ injury.

The loss of Hughes could prove to be devastating for New Jersey, which sits third in the Metropolitan Division following the 2-0 loss to Vegas.
