For the first time in her 2024 campaign, presidential candidate Kamala Harris came to one of Pennsylvania’s biggest swing counties — Erie.

“And Erie County, you are a pivot county. How you all vote in presidential elections often end up predicting the national result,” said Harris.

The vice president’s visit comes after her political opponent Donald Trump visited the county just weeks ago, and her running mate Tim Walz came in August.

After some words from Senator John Fetterman and State Senate candidate Jim Wertz, Kamala Harris took the stage to a big applause.

The vice president started her speech by talking about her plans for the economy.

“Under my economic plan, we will bring down the cost of housing and help first-time home buyers, giving them $25,000 for down payment assistance,” said Harris.

Harris then spoke about women’s health and why women should be able to make decisions about their own bodies.

“Ours is a fight for the future and it is a fight for freedom, like the fundamental freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body,” said said.

The democratic candidate also used her platform to criticize her election opponent, Donald Trump.

“Anybody who says they would terminate the constitution of the United States should never again stand behind the seal of the president of the United States,” said Harris.

The next stop on Harris’s schedule will take her campaign to Detroit, Michigan.

With only 21 days to the election, both candidates have been making Pennsylvania a point of interest in their campaigns with Donald Trump also holding a rally on Monday in Montgomery County outside of Philadelphia.
