Former Vice President Kamala Harris revealed the sweetest birthday tradition she and her husband, Doug Emhoff, have.
Currently, Harris is promoting her memoir, 107 Days, while Emhoff has returned to his legal career and works at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP as a partner.
The former Second Gentleman celebrated his 61st birthday on Monday. To honor him, Harris posted a video of honoring her husband and explaining to her viewers their yearly birthday tradition.
“So, our tradition for Doug’s birthday is his two favorite meals: chicken parm with spaghetti and key lime pie for dessert,” revealed Harris. So, that is what we had that day, and usually, on his birthday, every year.”
This time last year, the couple were actively campaigning across the country during the 2024 Presidential Election. Emhoff and his daughter, Ella, were in Philadelphia on his birthday, while Harris had an event in North Carolina. Though they were apart for most of the day, the 60-year-old politician revealed that they were able to have Emhoff’s favorite meal later in the evening for his birthday.
“Doug and I were born exactly seven days apart, and we like to joke that he just came down to check everything out, check out the scene before I arrived,” Harris said with a smile at the end of the video. “So happy birthday, honey, I love you so much.”

The couple met on a blind date in 2013, set up by a mutual friend. Emhoff, who was an entertainment lawyer, was connected to Harris through a friend, Chrisette Hudlin, who had been his client. The pair have been married since 2014.
Fans can purchase Harris’ new book, 107 Days, which follows her 2024 presidential campaign after Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the election, with the title referencing the length of her campaign.
