Iowa Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks did not show up to a town hall after she was invited to by local voters to hear how major federal cuts, funding freezes, and illegal firings of federal employees are affecting Iowans.

Despite numerous invitations from constituents, Miller-Meeks has not scheduled any public events during this week’s Congressional recess. Therefore, local labor organizations hosted a town hall to provide a venue for residents of the 1st Congressional District to voice their concerns and questions, which will be now delivered to Miller-Meeks’ office because she did not attend in-person.

There are seven thousand federal employees in the district, and they want to hear from their congressperson… if she supports these cuts, then she needs to say it loud and proud. If she’s opposed to them, by the same token, she needs to be out there and speaking about it,” President of American Federation of Government Employees Local 2547 Patrick Kearns said.

Miller-Meeks has expressed support for Elon Musk’s “DOGE Caucus” and has not taken action to prevent the termination of frontline federal workers. She has also backed measures proposed by the Trump administration that would reduce funding, staffing, or shift control of programs and agencies such as Medicaid, Social Security, Veterans Affairs, the USDA, NIH, the U.S. Department of Education, and the U.S. Postal Service.

We reached out to Miller-Meeks for a statement, but have not received a response.
