Lady Gaga is in stupid love. She and Silicon Valley bigwig Michael Polansky have shared many a sweet selfie on Instagram, though they don’t often hit red carpets together, probably because Polansky is just as busy as Gaga. Now that they’re to be wed, here’s an overview of Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky’s relationship, a match made in futuristic heaven:
2019
According to Page Six, they get together sometime after Gaga ended her engagement to Christian Carino. At the time, the outlet’s source speculates that the pair have known each other “for a while” via tech billionaire Sean Parker’s social circle, pegging the start of their relationship to Parker’s birthday party in December 2019, but Gaga later reveals her mom set them up.
“My mom met him and she said to me, ‘I think I just met your husband,’ and I said, ‘I’m not ready to meet my husband!’ I could never have imagined that my mom…found the most perfect person for me?” she tells Vogue in October 2024.
Gaga notes that they first connected at a party in 2019, after she spent the evening asking around for him. “He finally came over to me and we talked for three hours,” she said. “We had the most amazing conversation.”
In the same cover story, Polansky noted his version of events, telling writer Jonathan Van Meter that “he didn’t make it three steps into the party before someone told him that Lady Gaga was looking for him.”
Noted Polansky, “I didn’t know much about her and honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I was struck immediately by her warmth and openness—she was so genuinely curious about what my life was like growing up in Minnesota.”
According to an interview with Good Morning America in March 2025, they had their first official date after one of her concerts in Las Vegas, where she was performing her dual residencies.
2020

March 13: A rare Hollywood outing…times two! On March 13, Polansky accompanies Gaga to the BAFTAs, where she is nominated for her performance in House of Gucci.

2024
April 1: Polansky proposes to Gaga during a rock climbing trip, though they manage to keep their engagement secret for nearly four months. In a September interview with Graham Norton, she revealed the date of the engagement, noting she “thought he was joking” because of the April Fools holiday.
In October, she spoke more about the engagement to Jimmy Kimmel, telling him that Polansky had the ring in his backpack and popped the question when they were heading back to their room. “He didn’t propose to me at the top. We climbed up to the top and we looked around and took some photos and then we went back down,” Gaga said. “And we were just walking back to the room and talking and he said—it was very Michael, to ask me if he could ask me. He wanted to know if it was OK to propose before he proposed.”
April 7: The pair spark engagement rumors when Gaga is photographed wearing an enormous diamond ring on a certain finger.
July 29: Gaga finally reveals that the pair are indeed engagaged…maybe without meaning to? After a dazzling performance on the bank of the River Seine during the 2024 Olympics opening ceremonies, the artist attended a swimming event with Polansky, where she was introduced to French prime minister Gabriel Attal. In a TikTok video of the moment, shared by Attal, Gaga can be heard referring to Polansky as “my fiancé.”
People later confirmed that the couple had been secretly engaged for “several months” but had been keeping the news under wraps. Per the report, the pair are now planning their wedding.
“They’re great together,” the source added. “He’s excited and supportive of her career. He can’t stand being in the spotlight, but lets her shine. He has his own business priorities that she’s supportive of.
“They both would love to have a family,” the source said.
September 2: Several weeks after confirming their engagement, Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky step out together at the Venice Film Festival, where Gaga flashes her gargantuan engagement ring for the first time.

September 3: The couple makes their red-carpet debut at the Venice Film Festival premiere of her film, Joker: Folie a Deux. Polansky, dressed in a tuxedo, looks lovingly at Gaga, who is dressed to the nines in a Christian Dior Haute Couture gown and lace Philip Treacy headpiece.

Once again, her massive oval-cut diamond is ready for the cameras. The private couple is clearly making a statement with their very public display of their commitment to one another.
September 5: Gaga opens up about her relationship with Polansky in Vogue‘s October cover story, including their first few years living in relative “normalcy” during the pandemic, after they first met in December 2019. The pair connected over their shared loves, including “music, science, and art,” Gaga says.
Gaga also admits that it was Polansky who convinced her that her next venture, an album that will drop in February 2025, should be pop. “Michael is the person who told me to make a new pop record,“ she says. “He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music.’”
2025
March 5, 2025: While promoting her new album, Mayhem, on Good Morning America, Gaga reveals they spoke about marriage and kids on their very first date.
“I wanted marriage and kids more than anything,” Gaga says. “Michael flew to Vegas when I was doing my show to take me on our first date and before we even sat down, I said, ‘Do you want marriage and kids?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, I do.’ And I said, ‘Okay, great, do you want some champagne?’ And he said, ‘Sure.’”
She continued, “I think I wanted him to know that I was a family girl”
Gaga gushes about Polansky throughout the interview, saying, “He just loves the whole me. I learn a lot from him. He’s so supportive. He’s got an incredibly kind heart. He’s my best friend. Being in a partnership with your best friend I feel like is a huge blessing. I couldn’t imagine going through life with anyone but him, honestly.”
The pop star also reveals Polansky helps her write music and that “he includes me in his business as well.” She continues, “He’s really creative. He plays guitar. He’s a really beautiful musician as well. We have a really creative relationship. My album’s called Mayhem, but it’s also nice to be in the mayhem with someone else.”
March 8: Gaga shares more about that life-changing phone call with her mother during her Saturday Night Live opening monologue. “My mom called me one day, and she goes, ‘I met your husband,’” Gaga recalled. “And I said, ‘What does he do?’ And she said, ‘He works in cancer research.’”
Gaga says she was “literally smoking a cigarette” during that call, adding “And then we went on three dates and I never smoked again…except when I’m drunk.”
