Lady Vols basketball played one of its most complete games of the season to kick off “We Back Pat” Week with a win.
No. 15 Tennessee won 86-73 against Mississippi State (15-4, 2-3 SEC) at Food City Center on Thursday. The Lady Vols (15-2, 3-2) were led by strong performances from their guards. Talaysia Cooper, Ruby Whitehorn, Samara Spencer and Jewel Spear all scored in double figures. Whitehorn led the team with 20 points.
Tennessee handled business on the boards, outrebounding Mississippi State 40-33. It outpaced the Bulldogs 16-9 on the offensive glass. The Lady Vols forced 20 turnovers and scored 30 points off them. Between the turnovers and Tennessee’s 46% shooting on 12 made 3-pointers, Mississippi State couldn’t keep up.
The Lady Vols are now on the road for two straight games next week, starting at Vanderbilt on Sunday (3 p.m. ET, SEC Network+) and then No. 7 Texas next Thursday.
