MINNEAPOLIS — New York has waited over 50 years for a basketball championship.
It will have to wait one more game for a second shot to clinch.
With 18.3 seconds left in a thrilling WNBA Finals Game 4 on Friday night, the Lynx had the ball on their side, and Courtney Williams missed a jump shot but Bridget Carleton got fouled on the rebound.
She made both shots from the charity stripe for the Lynx to take a two-point lead.
In attempting to inbound the ball with two seconds left, the Liberty finally got it out to Sabrina Ionescu, who chucked up a hopeless shot.
The buzzer went off, and the Liberty’s first chance to close for their first WNBA title against the Lynx on Friday night was over with an 82-80 loss.
A decisive Game 5 is set for Sunday at Barclays Center.
