Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) sparked a bevy of criticism on Thursday night after she posted, in all seriousness, that “they” can “control the weather.”

“It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done,” added the Republican lawmaker – clarifying she was not joking.

Claims of nefarious weather control have become somewhat common in the fever swamps of internet conspiracy theories. In January, close Trump ally Laura Loomer claimed that the extreme cold impacting the GOP Iowa caucus might be the result of Nikki Haley’s alleged deep state friends. “We all know @NikkiHaley has a lot of friends in the defense industry and Military industrial complex. She’s losing in Iowa, and now Iowa is set to get hit with a ONCE IN A DECADE blizzard as Donald Trump is set to dominate the Iowa Caucus. Is the Deep State using HAARP to rig the Iowa Caucus? Looks like weather manipulation to me,” Loomer wrote.

Greene, like Loomer, has long spun many baseless conspiracy theories based on tragic events including claiming fires in California were caused by Jewish-controlled space lasers, questioning if a plane really hit the Pentagon on 9/11, and suggesting that mass shootings are false flag operations.

Greene’s latest post appears to be a play on the deadly hurricane that ravaged much of the southeast. Many on the right, including former President Donald Trump, immediately sought to blame Democrats for the disaster – with Trump going so far as to falsely claim Democratic leaders were intentionally not helping Republicans impacted by the storm.

Former Republican Congressman Denver Riggleman (R-VA) pulled no punches in responding to Greene. “This person is in Congress. This ignorance, this lunacy, is why we have a government teetering and lurching. Her stupidity is a disease. She’s not alone either. Who do we blame? Well, folks.. we blame disinfo ecosystems— like here on X and we blame… voters. Mass idiocy. Stupid votes count.”

Below are some additional reactions to Greene’s post, which many critics also argued was an anti-Semitic dog whistle:
