Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump reportedly mended their differences over pre-Thanksgiving dinner in Mar-a-Lago this week.
According to Stephen Miller, the new deputy head of policy at the White House, on Wednesday (Nov. 27), the Meta CEO met up with Trump at the Palm Beach resort in a show of solidarity. In January 2021, Zuckerberg oversaw the suspension of Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts for two years, with an intention for him to be reinstated “if the risk to public safety has receded.” That month, Trump was alleged to have incited the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack after his presidential defeat against current head of state Joe Biden .
In a 2023 statement update, Meta shared its plan to instill “guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses” during the reinstatement of Trump’s accounts.
While Trump took offense to the suspension, the feud between him and Zuckerberg seems to be water under the bridge, as Miller told Fox News .
“Mark, obviously, he has his own interests, and he has his own company, and he has his own agenda,” Miller said. “But he’s made clear that he wants to support the national renewal of America under President Trump’s leadership.”
The dinner was also confirmed by Meta, per The New York Times , calling Trump’s election win “an important time for the future of American innovation.”
“Mark was grateful for the invitation to join President Trump for dinner and the opportunity to meet with members of his team about the incoming administration,” the statement continued.
The meet-up comes in the months after Trump’s assassination attempt in July, in which Zuckerberg called the president-elect’s survival and fist-pumping “one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen in my life.”
But in his latest book, Save America, Trump threatened to have Zuckerberg jailed if he allegedly plotted against him again.
“He told me there was nobody like Trump on Facebook. But at the same time, and for whatever reason, steered it against me,” Trump wrote, per Politico . “We are watching him closely, and if he does anything illegal this time he will spend the rest of his life in prison — as will others who cheat in the 2024 Presidential Election.”
