Lena Dunham’s Netflix series Too Much explores heartbreak, self-discovery and finding love again.
The show follows Jessica (Megan Stalter), a New Yorker in her mid-30s who moves to London in the wake of a soul-crushing breakup. Soon after her relocation, she meets Felix (Will Sharpe), a charming and carefree musician. Despite their differences, the connection allows Jessica to give love another chance.
Written and created by Girls autour Dunham, the show is loosely based on her own romance with husband and series co-creator, Luis Felber.
The actress moved to London in 2021, meeting Felber shortly after. She initially saw the relationship as “fleeting,” she told The New York Times in July 2025. But after their first date, Dunham “made the decision to see what happened,” and the couple got married eight months later in September 2021, she told Variety in July 2025.
Given the similarities, Dunham is well-aware that fans will compare Too Much to her own life, but she insists it’s not fully autobiographical.
“It’s certainly not quote-unquote ‘Based on a true story,’ but like everything I do, there is an element of my own life that I can’t help but inject,” she told Variety.
Aside from Dunham, many of the cast members have romantic stories of their own. Sharpe and his wife, actress Sophia Di Martino, have been together for over 15 years. Meanwhile, Rita Wilson, who plays Jessica’s mother, Lois, has been married to Tom Hanks for more than three decades.
Here’s everything to know about the real-life partners of the Too Much cast.

Stalter, who stars as the series’ protagonist Jessica, is in a relationship with her girlfriend, Maddie Allen.
The couple met through a dating app, Stalter told Gayety in July 2025. Though they keep their relationship private, Stalter has been open about her “amazing girlfriend” and her own sexuality.
“I’m a bisexual person who now realizes that I’m mostly gay,” she told Cosmopolitan UK in June 2025.
As for Allen, the actress said that she is “so fab,” adding, “She’s so hot and perfect.”

In Too Much, Will Sharpe plays Stalter’s enigmatic love interest, Felix. In real life, the actor is equally private when it comes to his own relationship with his wife Di Martino.
While they haven’t shared when they got married, Sharpe and Di Martino have been together since 2009, having met while filming the British medical drama Casualty.
“I was a junior doctor and she was playing a paramedic,” he told The Evening Standard in December 2022. “We’ve been together for 13 years and have two children.”
Sharpe and Di Martino share a son and a daughter, but the couple haven’t shared their names publicly.
Still, Sharpe has spoken about how much he loves fatherhood. “It changes your life almost immediately,” he told The Observer in July 2025. “It’s paradoxically tough and tiring but also extremely rewarding and brings new kinds of poetry into your life. That’s where my life is: at home.”

Dunham opted not to take the lead in Too Much, but the writer-director does appear on-screen in the role of Jessica’s sister, Nora. Likewise, her husband has a small cameo in the series, but Felber primarily worked as co-creator, music producer and composer.
The couple first met on a blind date in January 2021, shortly after Dunham moved to London.
“The moment we met, it was that sort of cheesy, beautiful thing of automatic connection. Neither of us were expecting that,” Felber told Variety in July 2025.
A few months later, they moved in together. They got married in September 2021 in an intimate ceremony.
That same month, Felber called Dunham his “best friend” in an interview with The New York Times.
“I think when you know, you know. I’ve only been alive for 35 years in this lifetime, and I think it’s another archaic thing for guys to hide their feelings,” he said. “When you find your soulmate, you just know … I could be sitting at a bus stop with her for 10 hours and it would be the best day ever.”

Michael Zegen plays Zev, Jessica’s ex-boyfriend of seven years.
On Jan. 12, 2025, Zegen and Broadway actress Jennifer Damiano got married in a small ceremony in New York City. The couple were first linked while working together on the off-Broadway musical Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice in 2020.
Although they keep their relationship private, Zegen told PEOPLE in November 2024 that he felt “lucky” to be with Damiano rather than have to deal with dating apps.
As far as their love languages, the actor shared that, “[Jennifer] is big on words of affirmation. I think I’m more of a gifts-giving kind of person.”

Emily Ratajkowski plays Zev’s new girlfriend in the Netflix series, but in real life, the supermodel appears to be single.
In a June 2025 interview with Elle UK, she opened up about prioritizing motherhood and friendships over relationships. “Not centering men is really wonderful,” she said. “I still like men. I just have zero straight men in my life, unless they’re a romantic interest.”
She went on to explain that she’s currently more focused on “being a mom” than on dating. “[Men are] pleasure and fun, but not a part of my core,” she said.
Ratajkowski was previously married to actor and producer Sebastian Bear-McClard. The pair tied the knot in early 2018 just a few weeks after meeting and in March 2021, they welcomed a baby boy, Sylvester Apollo. The following year in September 2022, the couple divorced.
Since then, the model has been romantically linked to some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Brad Pitt, Pete Davidson, Harry Styles and, most recently, singer Shaboozey.

Wilson, who portrays Jessica’s mother, and Hanks have one of the longest relationships in Hollywood.
The couple got married in April 1988, two years after making their red carpet debut. They welcomed their first child together, son Chet Hanks, in 1990, followed by son Truman Hanks in 1995. Hanks also shares two children, son Colin Hanks and daughter Elizabeth Ann “E.A.” Hanks, with his first wife, Samantha Lewes.
According to Hanks, the key to a happy marriage is simple.
“We just like each other,” he said at the 2015 Outfest Legacy Awards. “Every now and again you know, you gotta get over some stuff but life is one damn thing after another and it’s actually more pleasant to be able to go home with someone you like to spend time with.”
The couple are also grandparents now to three granddaughters: Olivia, Charlotte and Michaiah.
In 2023, Hanks shared his thoughts on being a cool grandpa to Entertainment Tonight.
“All you gotta do is love those little brats and they’re better than TV,” he joked. “They’re not little brats, they’re extraordinary young women. They are extraordinary young women.”
