The Beast in Me is Netflix’s latest mystery thriller series, but off-screen, the cast has a lot more romance in their lives.
The show, which premiered on Nov. 13, follows acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes), who is grieving the loss of her son, as she becomes obsessed with her neighbor, real estate mogul Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys). She starts investigating Nile and his role in the disappearance of his first wife, which ultimately puts her in danger.
Speaking with The Guardian in October 2025, Danes shared what drew her to the story and her character.
“I liked the idea of a writer being truly dangerous, and predatorial,” she said. “She’s in a lot of pain that she’s not fully admitting to herself, but I admired her mind, her intellectual integrity and her chutzpah and, ultimately, her depth of feeling.”
As for Rhys, the actor told Entertainment Weekly in August 2025 that he had to convince the production team he could take on the role of Nile.
“I read it and I was like, ‘I won’t get this. People don’t come to me for this,’ ” he said. “I have these Celtic eyes. I do downtrodden well, I don’t do megalomaniac or sociopath … I had to persuade them that I can be creepy.”
In real life, Danes has been married to her husband, Hugh Dancy, for over 15 years, and they share three children. Rhys has been in a long-term relationship with actress Keri Russell since at least 2014, and they share a son together.

“When we first started sorta-kinda-dating for real (ish), I had an ornament-making party for Christmas, and he helped organize it,” she said. “Then he made an ornament of cowboy paper dolls, and I thought, ‘And he crafts?’ That was it. You have me for the rest of our lives.”
The couple welcomed their first child together, son Cyrus, in 2012, and their second son, Rowan, in 2018. Their daughter, whose name they have yet to reveal, was born in 2023.

“The reason I decided to share this with you and with the world is because even though me telling you I’m queer might not be a big deal these days, things are still pretty bad out there for people like me,” she said.
Morales continued, “So while I’ll still insist on privacy, and I still don’t want you to know who I’m dating, you should know that it could be anyone. And that’s okay, because that’s what it’s supposed to be. Because that’s me.”
