Meghan Markle and her daughter, Princess Lilibet, enjoyed a sweet-as-candy girls’ day with Serena Williams.
“When the aunties come to celebrate … and play!” Meghan, 43, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Saturday, March 1. “Love you @serenawilliams.”
In the upload, Williams, also 43, dressed casually in a burgundy dress as she played a round of Candy Land with Meghan’s 3-year-old daughter. Lili, for her part, also got the pink memo and sported a pastel T-shirt with coordinating leggings. She wore her strawberry blonde hair down past her shoulders. (In addition to Lili, Meghan shares 5-year-old son Prince Archie with her husband, Prince Harry.)
Meghan, who set her Saturday post to Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day,” also posted a second image from the special playdate. In the snap, she gleefully watched Lili’s turn playing the Hasbro board game.
“3 days until the party begins. All are invited ❤️,” Meghan captioned her post, referring to the Netflix premiere of her upcoming docuseries, With Love, Meghan.
A final post on Saturday showcased Meghan and the tennis champ sharing a sweet hug for the camera.
Meghan and Williams became fast friends when they were put on the same flag football team at DIRECTV’s Celebrity Beach Bowl charity event in 2014.
“We hit it off immediately, taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing in, and chatting not about tennis or acting, but about all the good old fashioned girly stuff,” Meghan once wrote on her now-defunct Tig blog. “So began our friendship.”
The Duchess of Sussex added, “She quickly became a confidante I would text when I was traveling, the friend I would rally around for her tennis matches, and the down-to-earth chick I was able to grab lunch with just a couple weeks ago in Toronto. We are both the same age, have a penchant for hot sauces and adore fashion, but what connects us more than those things is perhaps our belief in exceeding expectations — our endless ambition.”
Their friendship has endured throughout the years with Williams even attending Meghan’s wedding to Harry, now 40, and planning the Suits alum’s baby shower for Archie.
“I just really think she’s the strongest — literally the strongest — person I know and the nicest [and] sweetest,” Williams gushed to Access Hollywood in November 2019. “And that’s just one of the many things that she does for me. I call her, text her anytime, crying, upset — she’s always there. Doesn’t matter what she’s going through, she just sets time away, and she’s just so amazing.”
With Love, Meghan premieres on Netflix Tuesday, March 4.
