Addison Shoemaker is the new Miss Alabama’s Teen.

The 16-year-old from Vestavia Hills was crowned on Sunday at Thompson High School in Alabaster. She competed as Miss Historic Springville’s Teen, besting 38 other contestants for the state title.

Shoemaker will start a yearlong reign and move on to represent Alabama at Miss America’s Teen, the national competition linked to Miss America. Peyton Bolling of Arkansas is the current Miss America’s Teen.

Shoemaker takes over the role of Miss Alabama’s Teen from Ali Mims of Harpersville, the 2024 winner. Mims crowned her successor on Sunday at the high school’s performing arts center and presented her with a bouquet of flowers.

Shoemaker attends Briarwood Christian School, where she’s in the 10th grade. She performed a lyrical dance routine during the competition on Sunday, to the song “Humble and Kind.”

Shoemaker also participated in physical fitness and evening wear segments during the finals, answered on-stage questions and discussed her philanthropic platform (called a “social initiative” by the Miss Alabama organization). It’s Cheering on Children’s, an advocacy campaign serving child life programs at children’s hospitals and the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

When asked on stage how the winner of Miss Alabama’s Teen can be a positive influence and role model for other teens, Shoemaker had an immediate answer.

“I want to use my platform as the next Miss Alabama’s Teen to inspire my peers and to be a brand ambassador. When I’m committed to something, I always give 120 percent,” she said. “I have proved this with Cheering on Children’s through the dollars raised, connections made and lives I’ve already got to impact. I want to use this opportunity to be an advocate and a role model. I’m excited and would be more than honored to step into this role and hit the group running tomorrow as the next Miss Alabama’s Teen.”

Shoemaker also touted the Miss Alabama Organization as a springboard for teens as they seek success.

“As the next Miss Alabama’s Teen, I want to empower girls to invest in this organization and use it as a launching pad to become the highest version of themselves,” she said.

As the winner of Miss Alabama’s Teen, Shoemaker will receive $7,500 in scholarship money and her choice of four-year tuition scholarships to schools such as the University of Alabama, Auburn University, the University of Montevallo, Samford University, Troy University or the University of North Alabama.

Charlee Reid was named first runner-up on Sunday. Katherine Grigsby was second runner-up, taking third place. Madelyn Grace Rasco was third runner-up (fourth place). Britain Fuller rounded out the top five. All of them will receive scholarship money ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.
