A new AI competitive reality TV show has launched, seeing contestants battling it out in extreme circumstances in a fight to survive.
Non Player Combat launched on YouTube and AiMation on Monday, Dec. 8, as the first reality series based on a completely AI-generated premise, where every contestant and moment on screen is created digitally from scratch.
The four-part series is created by visual effects producer and CEO of AiMation Studios, Tom Paton, featuring six AI contestants who compete to survive in an exhilarating death match in a crossover between The Hunger Games, Fortnite and Traitors, as “AI calls the shots” on every decision in the show.
“Non Player Combat represents the emergent entertainment coming from AI, and is proof that it’s already here!” said Paton in a press release about the format shared with PEOPLE.
“The future lies where the characters from the shows and films we watch are living their stories in real time.”
“Non Player Combat contestants aren’t performing for the camera, so in many ways they feel more genuine than your average human reality TV contestant,” he explained of the show.

New AI reality series ‘Non Player Combat’ launched on Dec. 8
The show is set in a dystopian world where contestants face the harshest of conditions as they are pitted in bloody battles against polar bears, venomous snakes — and each other — among other deadly creatures, in a never-before-seen format that’ll keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The revolutionary show was created using AiMation’s in-house tool, Omnigen-01, and the most advanced AI technology to build its contestants with real personalities and autonomy over their decisions.
The six contestants will include former Navy Seal Travis Drake, wilderness coach Micah Gray and guilt-ridden Eliza Cole, with each character “trained” on detailed backstories.
“It all means nothing unless you care about the players. If the audience doesn’t fall in love with the characters, then it’s pointless,” said Paton of his cast.

The reality series is targeted at viewers aged 18-35 and the gaming community, who are “already OK with characters not being real,” and cost 90% less to make than real-life game shows, explained Paton.
“The question is, do you actually care that it’s AI if you’re entertained? I doubt it, and that’s all that counts,” he added.
The launch of Non Player Combat follows the 2024 release of AiMation’s film Where the Robots Grow, one of the world’s first feature-length AI movies.
The creation of Non Player Combat follows numerous AI controversies in Hollywood, including the backlash faced by AI actress, Tilly Norwood.
Oscar-Nominated actress Emily Blunt, 42, called Norwood’s creation “disappointing” and “terrifying” while Sophie Turner said, “”Wow…. No thanks.”
SAG-AFTRA, the union that represents tens of thousands of actors and other performers, said in a statement regarding the AI actress issued on Tuesday, Sept. 30, that the guild “believes creativity is, and should remain, human-centered.”
