Jacksonville’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade, which was postponed Monday because of cold weather, has been rescheduled to Feb. 17 during Black History Month.

The event was initially moved to Feb. 1, then shifted later, according to Gary Thomas of The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation Inc. in Jacksonville, which hosts the parade with the Law Offices of Ron Sholes as sponsor.

Also, the parade route will be “a bit truncated” after consultation with the city’s Special Events office, he said. The route cited for the Feb. 1 date began at EverBank Stadium’s Parking Lot J and ended at Lift Every Voice and Sing Park in LaVilla, with activities continuing at the park until 5:30 p.m.

“If you registered to participate in the MLK Holiday Parade 2025, please keep the spirit and join us at the beginning of Black History Month to celebrate the Patron Saint of America and the history of the Civil Rights Movement,” according to the foundation website.

The foundation was established in 1989 to honor the legacy of King, the civil rights movement he led and “the ongoing struggle for freedom and human rights in the United States, according to its website.

In addition to the parade, the foundation organizes events, seminars and conferences such as the MLK Memorial Candlelight Vigil, Juneteenth Freedom Walk, Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant, MLK documentaries and civil rights history tours, among other things.
