Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeased to be in good spirits while lighting sparklers with his family on New Year’s Eve, as seen a photo shared by his wife Brittany Mahomes.
Mahomes, who underwent surgery after he tore his ACL in a loss to the Chargers on Dec. 14, was all smiles as he stood in their driveway with 4-year-old daughter, Sterling, son, Bronze, 3, and daughter Golden, who turns one this month.
The three-time Super Bowl champ sported a sweatshirt and matching shorts while on crutches, as his leg was in a black sleeve and a brace.
Mahomes tore his ACL in his left knee with less than two minutes remaining in the Chiefs’ 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15.
He underwent surgery the next day to repair the torn ACL plus LCL ligaments in his left knee.
Gardner Minshew replaced Mahomes and tossed an interception to seal the loss — which officially eliminated the Chiefs (6-10) from playoff contention for the first time in Mahomes’ tenure in Kansas City.
During a virtual press conference Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid explained that Mahomes is back in the building and attacking his rehab.
“Yeah, he’s around,” Reid said of Mahomes. “So, he’s in the building working and doing his rehab (and) spending a lot of hours doing it.
“He’s really attacked that and will continue to do that. He’s around and sees the guys, but most of his time is being spent rehabbing.”
Mahomes, 30, was in attendance for the Chiefs’ home loss to the Denver Broncos on Christmas night.
Reid said Mahomes won’t travel to Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Yeah, probably not,” the coach added. “Not this soon, no.”
